For a healthy young India: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit administering polio drops to a child to launch the new polio campaign at her residence in the Capital on Saturday.
NEW DELHI: The Capital is all set for a new round of Polio Immunisation Programme slated for Sunday. At a function here on Saturday, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit launched the new round of Pulse Polio Campaign at her residence and said it would be ensured that polio is eradicated from the Capital. She said strong children are required to build a strong nation and Delhi had been a pioneer and a role model in the Pulse Polio Programme. Presiding over the function, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said 7,500 polio booths would be established to administer the polio vaccine on Sunday to lakhs of children aged five years and below. According to him, 30,000 workers and employees of the Health Department would be deployed for the work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There would also be booths and stalls at railway stations, inter-State bus terminals and at public places such as Appu Ghar, major temples and Metro railway stations. Dr. Shastri conveyed his gratitude to the Rotary Club and other non-government organisations for making the Pulse Polio Campaign successful in Delhi and said a door-to-door, weeklong survey would also be conducted under the “search and immunisation Pulse Polio Campaign”. About 17,000 workers in 8,600 teams would visit different colonies including slums and jhuggi-jhonpri clusters to administer polio drops to children.
