Stiff resistance: Police officials taking into custody agitating Telangana Rashtriya Vidyarthi Sangham activists who tried to stall the GO 610 meeting in the Assembly complex on Saturday in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: As the deadline set for the implementation of the Presidential Orders expired on Saturday, the Government still appears to be uncertain over the exact number of non-local employees to be repatriated from different departments.

While the reports given by the departments earlier indicated that the number of non-locals for repatriation was little above 3,000, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at one stage, asserted they would be around 5,000. But the House Committee on GO 610 chairman N. Uttam Kumar Reddy hinted that the number could be over 8,000.

Verifying recruitments

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the House panel that was attended by the coastal Andhra MLAs who earlier tendered their resignations from the committee, Mr. Reddy said the latest figure was based on the data provided by 75 out of the 102 heads of departments. The remaining departments had been asked to submit information within three to four days. The Government had, in principle, also accepted to verify recruitments made from 1975 to rectify violations of Presidential Orders.

The Left parties as well as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, however, accused the General Administration Department of suppressing the facts and giving report that was “full of lapses.”

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the panel recommended that the names of non-locals identified for repatriation be hosted on the Government’s official website.
