Chandigarh: Telecom services of State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) were disrupted here and in some parts of Punjab and Haryana due to a fire in the main exchange building in Sector 17 on Saturday. The cables, power lines, furniture and other equipment were damaged due to the fire, Principal General Manager of Chandigarh Exchange Telephone D. R. Paul told PTI here this evening. No casualty was, however, reported as there were not many people inside the building at that time. The fire was detected at about 7 am. Presently phones connected to other exchanges in Chandigarh, Panchkula in Haryana and Mohali in Punjab were working for only voice calls. Connectivity to other exchanges and outstation cities had been disrupted due to the fire, Paul added. -- PTI
