NFIW opposes two-child norm
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has condemned the Chhattisgarh Government’s scheme of enforcing the two-child norm for selecting candidates for government jobs.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the Federation said it strongly felt that the scheme would lead to a silent genocide, that is, female foeticide. It will be disastrous for the entire nation. According to the 2001 Census Report, the sex ratio in our country is alarmingly low.
According to the National Family and Health Survey-3, the infant mortality rate in Chhattisgarh is 71 per cent with 81 per cent of its children under 3 years being anaemic and 51.1 per cent under weight. Only 15.7 per cent of births are institutional.
