GAMEPLAN: Kensaku Konishi, President and CEO, Canon India
NEW DELHI: Canon India has decided to offer additional benefits to attract new customers. The company, which has been hit by the flourishing grey market, particularly that of digital cameras, has also decided to offer extended warranty on its products and better service network. Blaming the high rate of taxes on imported electronic goods for the thriving grey market in India, Canon India President and CEO Kensaku Konishi said that of the estimated eight lakh cameras sold each year, half of it came from the grey market. which is a cause of concern.“Besides additional benefits, we are planning to give training in photography by setting up digital studios. All these measures will help us steeply improve Canon’s share in the next three to five years,” Mr. Konishi said while speaking to The Hindu. Though Canon has no plans to set up a manufacturing unit in India, it has decided to strengthen its software development activities at its software development centre in Noida.
