Sahib Singh Verma killed in road accident

Sunny Sebastian

JAIPUR: The former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Sahib Singh Verma, was killed when his car and a truck collided in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Saturday.

The accident, which took place near the Shahjahanpur industrial area, some 80 km from Delhi on National Highway 8, also claimed the lives of co-passengers: Delhi Councillor Naresh Agarwal and Mr. Verma’s personal security officer Jagroop and car driver Divesh.

Mr. Verma, national BJP vice-president and one-time in-charge of party affairs in Rajasthan, was on his way back to Delhi from Sikar district’s Neem Ka Thana town. The accident took place around 2.30 p.m. when the truck coming from the opposite direction jumped the divider on the six-lane highway and collided with the Tata Safari, turning it into a twisted heap of steel. The truck driver was seriously injured.
