Departments told to expedite road repair, cleaning of drains

Thiruvananthapuram: The District Development Committee which met here on Saturday decided to expedite the repair of damaged roads and cleaning of drains and gutters, and ensure drinking water supply in parched areas. The meeting assessed the progress of works taken up by various Government departments till the end of May.

Presiding over the meeting, District Collector N. Ayyappan stressed the need for budgetary allocation of funds for desilting of drains coming under the Public Works Department (PWD).

V. Sivankutty, MLA, called for improving the response time of the Kerala State Electricity Board in restoring damaged power lines. Parassala MLA Selvaraj said PWD officials should take up the responsibility of cleaning the drains and gutters on roads under their jurisdiction.

The Collector directed officials to prevent the outbreak of contagious diseases during the monsoon and to ensure that roads were motorable.
