BANGALORE: Gold polishers cheated three women and made away with their ornaments worth Rs. 1.75 lakh in two incidents reported from Kumaraswamy Layout and Basavanagudi police station limits on Friday. The police said that around 2 p.m. two men came to Padma’s house at Yelechenahalli and introduced themselves as gold ornament polishers. Padma and her grandmother gave them four gold bangles and two chains, together worth Rs. 1 lakh, for polishing. The duo put the ornaments in a pressure cooker and added water and some chemicals to it. They told the two women to boil it for 10 minutes. After the gold polishers left, Padma opened the cooker and found the jewellery missing. The Kumaraswamy Layout police have registered a case. Adopting the same trick, two men cheated Ambika Shiva Kumar, a resident of DVG Road, of gold ornaments worth Rs. 70,000. Two killed
Two persons were killed in as many road accidents in the city since Friday night. The police said Shoba (48) suffered severe injuries when she fell from the motorcycle on which she was riding pillion with her husband near Venkataramanaswamy temple in Jayanagar around 9.30 p.m. on Friday. She died of injuries at a hospital. In the other incident, M.D. Sajjan (35) was killed when a car hit his motorcycle on Lady Curzon Road in the early hours of Saturday.
