BANGALORE: Armed men stabbed a student and robbed him of a mobile phone and Rs. 50 in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Friday. A seriously injured Vinod Kumar (19) was operated upon at a private hospital, and he is in the intensive care unit. Vinod, a diploma student, is the son of police constable Venkatesh. Around 8.30 p.m., four men waylaid Vinod at Bapujinagar pipeline area while he was returning to his house in Padarayanapura after tuitions. When he tried to escape, the armed men chased and attacked him near the railway tracks, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra told The Hindu on Saturday that investigation was on to ascertain whether the armed men had attacked Vinod with the intention of robbing him or for some other reason.
