Fiscal deficit at 41.2 per cent of target

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Healthy revenue collections, mainly through tax receipts, coupled with a cut in expenditure has enabled the Government to curb the fiscal deficit during April-May 2007-08 at a little over 41 per cent of the fiscal year’s target as compared to 48.5 per cent posted during the same two months of the previous year.

According to the data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), the total fiscal deficit was pegged at Rs.62,135 crore, which works out to 41.2 per cent of the Budget estimate of Rs.1,50,948 crore for the entire financial year.
