Japan downs France

TOKYO: Yu Koshikawa scored 21 points on Sunday as Japan defeated France in four sets in a men’s volleyball World league match.

Koshikawa spiked for 16 points to lead Japan to a 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 win.

Japan, which has not beaten France in four years, improved to 2-8 in Group B.

Sixteen countries are divided into four first-round groups, from which six teams advance to the final round to be held at Poland in July.

The United States wrapped a berth in the finals with a 3-1 win over Italy on Friday.

France clinched second place in Group B and could still make it to the finals as a wild card.

The United States leads Group B with 20 points followed by France with 19. — AP
