Copious inflows into Stanley reservoir
Special correspondent
METTUR: The Stanley reservoir, which could not be opened on June 12, the customary date of release of water for irrigation, has started receiving copious inflows from Sunday.
On Monday morning, the dam received 6685 cusecs. With the Cauvery basin in Karnataka experiencing heavy rain since Saturday evening, both Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini dams are receiving heavy inflows.
A senior official told The Hindu that Karnataka had informed officials at Mettur that the discharge had been stepped up to 11,610 cusecs. “We expect the inflow into the Stanley reservoir somewhere between 20000 and 25000 cusecs by Tuesday morning.”
Steady increase
The water lever is registering a steady rise and stood at 73.35 feet. If this trend (inflow) continues, there is a possibility of opening the reservoir for irrigation shortly, the official said. The water was released on schedule last year.
