ONGOLE: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated Rs. 11-crore rail over bridge (RoB) constructed on the Koppole road near the railway station here on Monday which would provide easy access to the beach village of Kothapatnam from Ongole. Dr. also laid the foundation stone for repairs to Vallur tank taken up at a cost of Rs. 8 crores to stabilise its ayacut. He later left Ongole by helicopter for Hyderabad. Congress leaders are happy that they could get so many projects for Ongole, including Rs. 100-crore government medical college, named Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, augmentation of drinking water supply at a cost of Rs. 18 crores in just one day. Earlier, people even with head injuries had to rush from here to Guntur general hospital. With Ongole getting medical college, they can have specialised treatment here itself, said G.V. The augmentation scheme would help the municipality construct seven more overhead tanks, as against four working now, to improve distribution capacity and supply drinking water everyday,he said. Ongole MLA Balineni Sreenivasa Reddy said that TDP leaders used to boast of developing the town at a cost of Rs. 112 crores, including the flyovers constructed as part of golden quadrilateral and railway over bridges, for which they made no efforts. They completed modern vegetable market but created adispute between municipal and marketing departments.
