Pilloor line burst

There is nothing strange about the Pillor water line burst (June 29). Very often residents of Coimbatore fed by the Pilloor water supply scheme have to bear the brunt whenever there is disruption in the water supply owing to pipeline bursts. Use of substandard pipes is the main reason for these frequent occurrences causing a great deal of hardship and agony to the residents of Peelamedu and other areas. Though prior information is given about the disruption in the supply of water for two or three days, quite often resumption of regular supply of water takes place after nearly a week or 10 days. Recently, Peelamedu and the surrounding parts of the city had to go without water for 12 days again because of pipeline burst. In this connection, it is pertinent to point out that whenever water supply is affected in the areas fed by the Siruvani scheme, Pilloor water is diverted to the affected areas. Likewise, authorities should arrange to divert water from the Siruvani scheme to the residents served by the Pilloor scheme whenever the water supply is affected. We are also paying the property and water taxes regularly. Don’t we deserve a fair deal from the Corporation?

T.K. Ganapathy,

Coimbatore.

Rail imbroglio

The imbroglio over the bifurcation of Palakkad railway division to form Salem division should not be allowed to affect the interests of railway passengers. Temporary extension of trains has resulted in passengers not being able to reserve tickets beyond a certain date. It is time the railway authorities sank their differences and ended all confusion on the extended run of trains.

Ravi. S,

Saibaba Colony.
