Minister’s assurance on HIV+ children

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government will ensure that the five HIV-infected pupils in the aided school at Pampady near Kottayam continue their studies there, Education Minister M.A. Baby said on Monday.

Even if parents of all others got transfer certificates, the HIV-infected pupils would continue to study in the school, he said here.

A high level committee would shortly discuss the issue on the basis of Assembly debates, Mr. Baby said.

The Lower Primary School is run by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

Asha Kiran, a rehabilitation centre for HIV-positive persons and their children, is taking care of the children now.
