Dedicated zones: Rajasthan’s way

K. T. Jagannathan

Korea, Germany evince interest

NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan Government’s move to attract Japanese investment into the State by promoting an exclusive industrial park at Neemrana to house Japanese companies has elicited enquiries from two more countries for setting up similar dedicated parks for companies from their regions.

In an interaction with The Hindu during the ground-breaking ceremony for the Honda’s second car plant at Tapurkara Industrial Area on Sunday, top officials of the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Industrial Corporati on (RIICO) said Korea and Germany, too, had approached the State Government, urging the establishment of independent industrial zones for housing companies from their respective countries.

In July last, RICCO signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese External Trade Organization and reserved an industrial park at Neemrana for Japanese investments, mostly from small and medium auto component sector. RICCO officials said though Germans had shown interest in such an exclusive country-specific park, the interactions were still at a preliminary stage. However, they said RICCO had exchanged a few letters with Koreans in this regard.

NIIT’s initiative

Rajasthan is, perhaps, the first State to go in for this type of country-dedicated industrial zone.

The State has earmarked 1,000 acres for the Japanese Park.

Over 50 Japanese firms are expected to put up facilities in this park. RICCO officials said NIIT, engaged in IT training, would set up a university near Neemrana.

Country-specific parks, RICCO officials said, would provide investors from the country concerned a certain amount of comfort. Further, this would also help them feel quite at home.
