Mammoth mission

The district administration has decided to complete the registration of all the elephants in the district within a month.

The administration has also instructed the Malayattur District Forest Officer (DFO) to report on the progress of the registration. A committee has been formed to oversee the registration as per the directions of the State Government to prevent cruelty against elephants, A.K. Thankappan, Additional District Magistrate, who chaired the meeting, said.

Besides the DFO, the committee is comprised of representatives from the Police, animal husbandry and revenue departments and animal lovers’ organisations.

The meeting instructed the agencies concerned to ensure that the elephant owners and the mahouts took good care of the animals.
