Rally taken out
Staff Reporter
NAMAKKAL: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in association with the Namakkal district police organised a motorcycle rally to create awareness on the importance of wearing helmets on Tuesday.
District Revenue Officer G. Govindarajan flagged off the rally at the RTO Office. Traffic police personnel and members of voluntary organisations participated in the rally, which passed through several thoroughfares, including Mohanur Road and Tiruchi Road, before concluding at the Government Higher Secondary School (Namakkal South).
The participants distributed handbills and explained the advantages of wearing helmets to the people during the rally. A large number of road accidents involving motorcyclists occurred due to head injuries, which could have been avoided if they used helmets, they said.
The State Government had issued an order asking the motorists to wear helmets from June 1 in city limits.
