Letters to the Editor
The news that Christie’s withdrew a draft editorial note written by Mahatma Gandhi 19 days before his assassination, a day before it was to go under the hammer, is heartening. The government’s efforts to acquire the manuscript deserve praise. Gandhiji’s writings are worth preserving and should be treated as a national treasure.
A.J. Rangarajan,
* * * Thanks to the government for acting in time to avert the auctioning of the rare manuscript in which Gandhiji has reportedly pleaded for tolerance towards Muslims and discussed the status of Urdu. One hopes that after getting the letter back, Hindus and Muslims will show mutual tolerance to keep India united.
G. Chitti Babu,
