CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has come out with an Intensive Sugarcane Development Scheme for promotion of various varieties of sugarcane, Minister of State for Cooperation Meena Mandal said here on Tuesday. The Haryana State Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation has set up a laboratory at Panchkula to impart training to sugarcane farmers, she added. Centres for farmers
Ms. Mandal said that the Government had also decided to set up Kisan Sewa Kendras in all cooperative sugar mills where fertilisers, pesticides, seeds, petrol, diesel and sugar would be made available to the farmers at genuine prices. These centres had already been set up in Panipat, Shahbad and Jind Cooperative Sugar Mills. Tissue culture
A tissue culture laboratory has been set up at Karnal in which the seeds of high quality would be prepared. The Minister disclosed that all the cooperative sugar mills of the State had purchased 317.46 lakh quintals of sugarcane from the farmers and disbursed Rs. 311 crore to them up to April this year. The area under sugarcane cultivation has increased from 1.65 lakh acres to 2.14 lakh acres and the production has also increased from 220 quintals per acre to 265 quintals per acre.
