In Kalyanadurg, some TDP activists got their heads tonsured to mark their protest
ANANTAPUR: Telugu Desam Party activists staged a novel protest here on Tuesday on the alleged failure of the State Government in supplying seed. They took out a ‘shava yatra’ of the State Government and cremated it the graveyard. Led by district official spokesperson of the party B. Buggaiah Chowdary, the party activists conducted ‘shava yatra’ from the party office to the graveyard on the fourth road. The activists also carried placards with slogans against the Government. Addressing the protesters, Mr. Buggaiah Chowdary alleged that the Government had failed to supply subsidised groundnut seed to the farmers in time. Farmers in hurry
As the district had recorded good rainfall in the second fortnight of June, the farmers were in a hurry to sow the seed when there was good moisture content in the soil. But, they had no seed with them and the Government was unable to supply the same in time. Though it had taken up seed supply, it was yet to reach more than half of the farmers. He requested the Government to speed up seed supply and also disbursement of crop insurance benefit and input subsidy against crop loss suffered during the last kharif. In Kalyanadurg, a few TDP activists got their heads tonsured in protest against the Government’s failure to supply even alternative crop seed like red gram in time.
