Two fishermen missing

PUDUKOTTAI: Two fishermen of Jegadapattinam in the district, who ventured into the sea on Friday last, were reportedly missing.

According to police, three fishermen — U. Veeresh (20); V. Balakrishnan (43) and T. Azhagar (32) of Jegadapattinam ventured into the sea by a fibre boat belonging to a women’s self-help group. The boat capsized because of strong winds on Friday night.

Although Azhagar, who managed to remain in the waters by catching hold of a few poles of a fishing net, was rescued by a group of fishermen on Sunday, the fate of the other two fishermen is not known, the police said.

On a complaint by the leader of the SHG, Lakshmi, the Jegadapattinam police have registered a case.
