Students’ grievance cells to come up in Government schools

Special Correspondent

Puducherry: Director of School Education G. Ragesh Chandra has said that all high and higher secondary schools in the Union Territory will set up students’ grievances cells to register the issues daunting students, and to find out early solutions.

In a release here on Tuesday, Mr. Ragesh Chandra said that there had been increase in agitations, rallies and processions by students to focus their demands. More often than not girls were also forming part of these rallies, which were only disrupting traffic. This trend was only causing concern both to parents and authorities.

The students could draw the attention of headmasters or principals for redressal. The Directorate had already initiated steps to make available textbooks in all Government schools, although there had been some delay in certain schools.

But there was no justification for students to resort to agitations. Mr. Ragesh Chandra said that steps were already taken to post teachers to fill vacancies. Meanwhile, students grievance cells with heads of institutions, representatives of Parents Teachers Association and village education committees would be formed soon in all schools. Should students continue to indulge in rallies and agitations, they would be liable for disciplinary action, the Director cautioned.
