Rs. 1.32 crore was disbursed to 5,859 women First installment of Rs. 39.60 lakh given
KARUR: Maternity assistance under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance Scheme would be extended to Sri Lankan refugees too, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh. The Collector said that a sum of Rs. 1.32 crore was disbursed to 5,859 women during last year. During the current year, the first installment of Rs. 39.60 lakh had been received and disbursed to 3,960 beneficiaries. The second installment of Rs. 1.18 crore would be disbursed to eligible beneficiaries shortly. Those getting assistance under the Central Government’s Janani Suraksha Yojana could also benefit under the State Government’s scheme. Mr. Venkatesh called upon the field staff of the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare to ensure that all targeted beneficiaries were brought under the scheme and assistance reached them expeditiously. During last year, under the Janani Surakasha Yojana maternity assistance to the tune of Rs. 31.78 lakh was disbursed to 4,598 women. For the 4,396 women who had institutional deliveries a sum of Rs. 700 and for 200 deliveries in the respective house a sum of Rs. 500 were disbursed.
