Council approves road widening

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: The Municipal council on Tuesday approved the widening of road from the District Cooperative Central Bank to Three Lamps Junction to 60 feet instead of 80 feet amid protests from the opposition TDP councillors.

At the emergency meeting held on Tuesday, the majority Congress councillors said as over 50 per cent of building owners were ready to remove structures voluntarily if the road widening was restricted to 60 feet the council must consider their opinion keeping in view of the financial position of the municipality.

The TDP councillors objected to their argument as the municipality had not maintained uniformity in road widening in the past and cited that the municipal council had approved widening of the road from Clock Tower to K.P. Temple to 80 feet instead of 60 feet.

Demanding that the Council maintain uniformity they submitted a descent note to Chairperson M. Geetha and boycott the meeting.
