Haneef visited Bangalore recently

K.V. Subramanya

BANGALORE: Mohammed Haneef, the Indian doctor detained in Brisbane for his suspected role in the U.K. terror attack, was believed to have visited the city recently to meet his wife, Firdose.

Police sources said Ms. Firdose, who gave birth to a baby three months ago, was living with her parents in BTM Layout here.

They said Dr. Haneef was the son of Mohammed S. Khaleel of Moodigere town in Chikmagalur district. After Khaleel, a retired teacher, passed away, the family moved to Bangalore 13 years ago after renting out their house and two shops.

Dr. Haneef, who scored 83 per cent in his class 12 examinations, got a medical seat through the common entrance test under the rural quota. He studied at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College in Kadugondanahalli in north Bangalore during 1997-2002.

A senior faculty member of the college said that Dr. Haneef completed his internship in 2003.

“He was polite and quiet, and attended classes regularly, but he kept away from extra-curricular activities,” the professor said.
