Madurai gets the better of Dindigul

Ramanathapuram: An unbeaten 65 by Bhagavat Sunder and a useful 59 by Manojkumar helped Madurai defeat Dindigul by two wickets for its second win in the four-team zone ‘E’ league of the TNCA inter-district under-19 cricket tournament at Syed Ammal Engineering College ground, Ramanathapuram on Tuesday.

At Ramanathapuram: ‘E’ zone: Dindigul 253 for six in 50 overs (Mohamed 62 not out, Jeyaprakash 44, Abdur Rahim 44) lost to Madurai 258 for eight in 44.5 overs (Bhagavat Sunder 65 not out, Manojkumar 59, R.G. Vignesh 35, Abd ur Rahim three for 56); Ramanathapuram 150 in 47 overs (Saravanan four for 21, Balaji three for 25) bt Namakkal 108 in 29.2 overs (Saravanan 36, Wahidkhan four for 20, Alsairose three for 20).

At Tirunelveli: ‘D’ zone: Karur 114 in 29 overs (R. Saravanan 27, T. Bupathy Raja four for 21) lost to Erode 116 for five in 23.3 overs (A. Yuvaraj 51 not out); Tirunelveli 248 for seven in 50 overs (J. Rajadurai 36, M. Pra deep 41, G. V.M.J. HSS posts win

At Madurai, host V.M.J. Higher Secondary School beat Vikaasa School 25-22, 25-21 in the superior section of the 28th annual State-level inter-school volleyball tournament for Mariappa Nadar Trophy at the school ground, Madurai on Tuesday.
Sridhar wins title

At Madruai, P. Sridhar of MTN College, Madurai claimed the boys under-25 title in the State-level chess tournament organised by Chanakya Chess Academy at Madurai on Sunday.

At Thanjavur, Muzaiyan Bijili’s all-round performance (55 not out and four for 31) was the highlight of Thanjavur’s comfortable seven-wicket win over Tiruvannamalai in a ‘A’ zone league encounter of the TNCA under-19 inter-district cricket tournament here on Tuesday.
