Deccan Medical posts win

HYDERABAD: Deccan Medical College defeated Flying Asteroids 41-27 in the Ghousuddin memorial basketball tournament, organised by CCOB, at the City College grounds here.

It was a good fight back by DMC which was trailing 9-13 in the first quarter.

But by scoring 16 points in the second quarter, in which the rival did not score even a single point, DMC never looked back and eventually wrapped up the match thanks to crucial points by Keertan Reddy and Suraj Reddy.

For the loser, Suraj (nine points) put up a good show.

Andhra girls for Indian camp

For the first time in the history of Andhra women’s hockey, three girls from the State — V. Aswani and K. Sujitha (both from Kadapa) and M. Padmavathi (Krishna) — were selected in the Indian sub-junior hockey camp to be held in Lucknow from July 13 for some of the foreign tours scheduled later this year.

Two other players from the State — Y. Soundarya (Nizamabad) and K. Mamatha (Prakasham) — were also named in the Indian development squad that will tour Italy for international exposure.

Rao-Mohan duo wins

K. Nageswara Rao and G. Mohan, with 204 IMPs, emerged winners in the East-West direction of master pairs event bridge championship, organised by the Fateh Maidan Club, here.

The results:

Master pairs event:

East-West: 1. K. Nageswara Rao/ G. Mohan; 2. Goverdhan Agarwal/ V.S.R. Murthy; 3. E. Daniel/ Suresh Kumar.

North-South: 1. Bihari Lal/ K. Srinivas Reddy; 2. K. Suryanaranaya/ G. Veerabhadra Rao; 3. Wajid Ali Mirza/ Hayat Pasha.

Dr. V. Bedekar Barometer master pairs event: 1. P.J. Faria/ Ajay Yadnik; 2. Prakash Kejriwal/ Vijayaraghavan; 3. K. Srinivas Reddy/ Bihari Lal (29 VPs).

Football tournament

The Salar-e-Millat Challenge Cup prize money football tournament will commence from July 6 at the Quli Qutub Shah Stadium.

The Athletic Coaching Academy will organise the 14th AP Golden Mile Run at NTR Gardens on July 15 from 6 a.m.
