HYDERABAD: The National Green Corps (NGC) will be introducing ‘Environmental Education Activity’ books for students of classes one to 10 from the forthcoming academic year. Each school will have a set of books specifying the activities to be taken up at school and community levels. Apart from this, the School Education Department had also issued orders to demarcate two periods per week for Environmental Education activities, said NGC Director W. Prasanna Kumar at a press conference on Tuesday. The efforts of ‘Eco Clubs’ in schools will culminate in the Student Environment Congresses at school, division and state levels to be participated in by the students of class eight. Mr. Kumar said class eight students were chosen because they will be “old enough to understand the spirit of the exercise and young enough to be spared from the psychological pressures faced by their seniors.” Nine awards each at division and state levels will be given away, with three chosen to represent the state at national level. Division
Two schools from each division, one private and one government, will be selected to participate . Each student team will assess the performance of all other teams facilitating an impartial decision. Separate programmes have been structured to include Kendriya Vidyalayas, ICSE, CBSE and Navodaya schools and to merge them at state levels, he said.
