Chennai: Students should continuously update their knowledge even after they leave college if they want to remain competent, senior physiotherapists told an inter-college physiotherapy conference organised at SRM University recently.

Four senior professors, who were presented lifetime achievement awards, told the students that one should remain abreast of latest developments as the field continuously evolved.

Daulat H. Dastoor, Manik Sahani, A.G. Dandapani and Mary Chidambaram, who were honoured, said physiotherapy is a cost-effective aspect of healthcare.

Mr. Sahani urged the students to keep questioning even published articles.

There is a serious dearth of therapists in the country, P. Sathyanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor of the university, told reporters.

Over 700 students from across the country participated in the two-day conference that was inaugurated by T.R. Pachamuthu, university Chancellor.
