For principals: The magazine “Mentor-A Matter of Principal” was launched in Bangalore on Thursday.
Bangalore: One look at the news stand and you get a magazine for every field, be it design, fashion, food, business, retail, education, health, society, wildlife, photography or just plain news. But did you ever notice an exclusive magazine for school principals? As if to make up for that lapse, The Activity, an organisation that works closely with schools in the country, has now come up with such a magazine, called the “Mentor – A Matter of Principal.” The magazine was launched on Thursday. Syed Sultan Ahmed, Managing Director of The Activity and publication head of the magazine said, “ ‘Mentor’ is India’s first magazine for school principals. The Activity has been working very closely with schools across the country for several years. We found that principals wanted to know about what is happening in other schools, experiments and so on. To cater to this need, we created ‘Mentor’.” Mr. Ahmed asserts that “Mentor” is perfectly poised to be the new voice for education in India. “We conducted intensive research for a year. We found that there were no quality magazines that cater to the niche educational market. It is not so in other countries. In U.K., for example, there is a magazine for primary school teachers,” he added. “Mentor” is designed to give school principals a platform on which they can work together and exchange ideas. “Mentor” allows the principal to move into a realm that will be more powerful, more productive and significantly impact the teaching and learning process. It will help serve as a platform for heads, teachers, parents, government and students to come together for bettering the system.” The chief objective of “Mentor” is to provide a platform where school principals across the country get together and work as one unified body. Mr. Ahmed said that the first three issues of the monthly magazine will be circulated to 5,000 schools in the country, free of cost. “We have worked hard to ensure quality. We have not compromised on anything. We want the best in the school, that is, the principal to get the best,” he said. To know more about the magazine, visit “ www.mentormagazine.net”.
