Bags awards for best destination, tourism board Study to find out winner covers 10 cities
Moment of pride: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan receives tourism awards from Union Minister of State for Tourism Ambika Soni
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Tourism has reaffirmed its position on top in the tourism sector of the country by clinching the coveted Best State Tourism Board and the Best Travel Destination awards. Minister for Tourism and Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan received the awards along with Secretary, Tourism, V. Venu from Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni at a function held in New Delhi last week. The winners of the awards, instituted by CNBC-AWAZ, were determined by a comprehensive study on the travel industry covering 20 categories across 10 major cities, a release from Kerala Tourism said. Thekkady, which was chosen as the Best Travel Destination-Wildlife and Nature, is one of the key destinations where sustained tourism is being upheld in every aspect of development. A host of eco-tourism packages along with Periyar Tiger Trail has made Thekkady a favourite destination for regular visitors and eco-tourists alike. Receiving the award from the Union Minister, Mr. Balakrishnan said the State’s focus on sustainable tourism had set the ball rolling for Kerala’s successful journey into becoming one of the Asia’s finest destinations. Acclaimed for its eco-friendly practices and long term approach to the development of the tourism sector and in attracting tourist to the State, Kerala now serves as a model for the rest of the States in the country.
