Madikeri: A three-foot crocodile, which was caught in a paddy field on Monday night at Balele in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu, was released into the Lakshmanateerta on Tuesday, according to information received here.

Rafique, one of the eyewitnesses, said the crocodile was captured by “Snake” Satish, who is known for catching snakes and releasing them in the forests. Mr. Satish was informed about the presence of the crocodile by a teacher on Monday. Mr. Satish said the crocodile might have reached the paddy field owing to the floods in the wake of heavy rain. The crocodile could be three months old and there could be a few more in the vicinity, he said. Mr. Satish has appealed to the people not to kill crocodiles and inform the Forest Department if they notice them.
