Alappuzha achieves total banking

Thiruvananthauram: Alappuzha has become the fourth district in Kerala to achieve 100 per cent banking. K.S. Manoj, M. P., made the declaration at a function held in Alappuzha.

The district has achieved this feat by opening bank accounts for 1.66 lakh non-banking families, among the 4.67 lakh families spread over 1,182 wards in 83 villages. Around 1.05 lakh of these are zero balance accounts. These account holders will be issued credit cards for their small credit needs after six months observation. Pradeep Shankar, Chief General Manager, S. B. T., delivered the keynote address at the function.
