Prof. Murty is a noted Telugu scholar, researcher and epigraphist. His research on Tirumala music inscriptions found on stone slabs with musical notations is one of his most significant contributions.

Popularly known as “Hampana”, Dr. Nagarajaiah has written 60 books in Kannada, 11 in English and more than 300 articles. His areas of special interest are Jainism, ancient and medieval literature in Kannada.
