Gaffe at function

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A gaffe committed by an official of the Ministry of External Affairs at a luncheon hosted by the Chief Minister to the US Ambassador after the signing of the lease agreement caused much embarrassment to State bureaucrats.

As Special Chief Secretary, Finance, P. Ramakanth Reddy, took his seat at the large dinner table, the official from New Delhi brusquely asked him to “move” even as journalists were watching . Shocked by his action, Mr. Reddy curtly told him that he was an invitee of the General Administration Department and he had no business to speak in such a tone. A clearly hurt Mr. Reddy threatened to leave the premises but GAD officials pleaded with him to stay on. He, however, shifted to a corner where journalists were bunched together.
