Vatal Nagaraj leads protest

BANGALORE: Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj led a “drum-beating” protest in front of the Election Commission Office here on Tuesday pressing for reforms in the election laws, saying that the lax rules and indifferent implementation had only encouraged anti-social and communal elements to contest elections at all levels.

Mr. Nagaraj announced plans to organise a convention of all parties in the first week of August on an integrated electoral law.

A petition on various demands pertaining to the election laws would be submitted to the Election Commission, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Chairman of the Legislative Council and the Leaders of the Opposition in the two Houses, the MLA said.

He was joined by C.N. Ramu, president, All-India Dalit Action Committee, and Dalit Sangharsh Samiti activists N. Murthy and Girish Gowda. — Staff Reporter
