Government gets more time to revise reservation of posts

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted time till the end of July for the State Government to complete the process of revision of reservation of posts in the 207 local bodies in the State. The court made it clear that it will not extend the time any further.

A Division Bench comprising Justice K. Sreedhar Rao and Justice Subash B. Adi passed the order on a memo issued by the State Election Commission (SEC). The SEC had sought for a direction to the Government to expedite the process of revision of posts and hand them over to it so that elections to the local bodies could be announced.

Appearing for the Government, Advocate-General Uday Holla submitted that the process of revising the reservation had been completed with regard to 180 local bodies.

The exercise would be completed for the remaining 27 shortly, he said. H urged the court to grant the Government some more time.

Advocate for SEC K.N. Phanindra said that nine weeks (the time given by a single judge to the State to revise the reservation of posts) had expired on June 16.
