JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has decided to bring domestic labourers within the purview of the Minimum Wages Act and fix remuneration for their work. Special steps will be taken to extend the benefits of the ongoing welfare schemes for construction, bidi and bonded labourers to the domestic labourers. The Minister of State for Labour, Babulal Verma, announcing this at a meeting of the State-level Labour Committee here on Tuesday, said the Labour Department would play a crucial role in resolving industrial disputes arising mostly out of the lack of dialogue between the management and workers. Mr. Verma said his department would prepare a calendar for holding regular meetings of tripartite committees of industrialists and workers to promote cordial industrial relations. “In this context, workers’ participation in the State’s industrial growth is an area needing immediate attention,” he added. Principal Secretary (Labour and Employment) Lalit K. Pawar said the Industries Department would be requested to consult the Labour Department before converting private industrial units into the State-assisted units.
