Action against erring milk vendors

Staff Reporter

Labour Department takes the initiative in Maraimalai Nagar following complaints

KANCHEEPURAM: The District Labour Department has initiated legal action against six milk retailers in the Maraimalai Nagar area for selling milk sachets at higher rate to the customers.

According to a release issued by the Labour Inspector, Kancheepuram, G. Mahalingam, the department received complaints from consumer organisations that milk sachets were being sold at a price higher than the one printed on the sachet in the Maraimalai Nagar area. Subsequently, a team of officials inspected 69 places and found six retailers selling milk at higher prices.

Legal action has been initiated under Rule 23 (2) of the Standards of Weight and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977. Consumers who were forced to pay extra money could lodge a complaint with the Department over phone (044) 27221090, he added.
