Global bids to be floated in August Tender process will be completed by September-end Over 12 lakh TVs already procured
CONSULTATIVE APPROACH: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi discussing issues relating to free distribution of television sets with representatives of parties at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
CHENNAI: The State Government will procure an additional 30 lakh television sets for distribution under the free colour television scheme in 2007-08. This was decided at a meeting of the Committee formed for the purpose. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi chaired the meeting. The meeting decided to float global bids in August. The tender process will be completed by September-end. Same yardstick
It was also decided to adopt the same yardstick as the last time for bidding and supply of television sets. On the progress of distribution of TV sets so far, a release said that till June 24, 12,18,897 TV sets were procured (of the 25 lakh ordered) and sent to various districts for distribution. Of this, 10,16,940 sets have been distributed. The meeting decided that all the 25 lakh sets should be distributed by November-end. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, leaders of political parties represented in the Assembly including D. Sudarssanam (Congress), G.K. Mani (PMK), C. Govindasamy (CPI-M), V. Sivapunniyam (CPI) and P. Selvam (VCK) attended the meeting.
