Further rise in rupee

MUMBAI: Continuing its upward trend, the rupee on Tuesday closed at nearly one-month high of 40.54/55 against the U.S. currency following firm equity markets and fresh capital inflows.

Dollar sales by exporters and its weak standing overseas also aided the rupee’s firmness that completed four-sessions with gains.

In active trade at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened strong at 40.57/59 from Monday’s close of 40.65/66. It later gyrated in a range of 40.44 and 40.59 a dollar on alternate bouts of buying and selling. The rupee finally settled the day at 40.54/55a dollar, a net rise of 11 paise. It has gained 46 paise or 1.12 per cent in the last four-sessions. — PTI
