Dismal start to India’s campaign

New Delhi: India’s campaign in the Thailand Open badminton tournament started on a poor note with those playing in the qualification matches failing to make it to the main draw.

At the qualification stage, Rohan Castelino lost to Mohammed Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia 21-16, 22-20.

In women’s singles, Jwala Gutta won the first round against Shannon Pohl of the U.S. 22-20, 21-19, but failed to clear the next round losing to Yoon Hee Seo of Korea 21-15, 21-13. Yoon Hee had beaten Aparna Balan 21-12, 21-14 in the first round.

Shruti Kurien lost to Porntip Buranaprasertsuk 21-9, 21-9, while Aditi Mutatkar lost to Chia Hsin Huang of Chines Taipei 21-10, 21-13. — PTI
