Drive to rectify lapses in power supply

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The four power distribution companies in the State on Tuesday launched a 10-day special drive at 11kv-level to repair and rectify electrical installations and ensure proper supply to consumers.

Power supply to all consumers, except in case of certain industries, is made at 11kv level.

The drive has been ordered by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in view of reports about electrocution deaths and extensive damage caused to electrical installations by the heavy rain affecting supply.

As part of the drive, the ground-level staff of the distribution companies, accompanied by engineers, began visiting habitations. Reports received at the central monitoring cell here indicated that the visiting teams had rectified sagging wires, tilted/collapsed poles, and replaced damaged distribution transformers.

Energy Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir said consumers could contact call-centres of the distribution companies which were working round the clock, to have their problems solved, relating to non-supply, if any.

He said from July 14 to 24, the staff would take up the problems like increasing ground clearance space of the transmission lines at road-crossings and replacement of conductors/poles/wires.
