This Day That Age
Mr. T.L. Sasivarna Thevar (Forward Bloc) won the bye-election to the Madras Assembly from Mudukalathur in Ramanathapuram district on July 4. The bye-election was caused by the resignation of Mr. U. Muthuramalinga Thevar, who in the last general election was elected to both Parliament and the Assembly. He was returned to Parliament from the double-member Srivilliputhur constituency and to the Assembly from Mudukalathur, which forms part of the Srivilliputhur Parliamentary constituency. In the 1952 general election too, Mr. Muthuramalinga Thevar was returned to both Parliament and the Assembly from the same area, but he retained the Assembly seat then.
