75 huts, houses gutted in Karaikal

KARAIKAl: Nearly 75 huts and houses in the Drowpathi Amman Kovil Street near the new bus stand in Karaikal town were destroyed in a fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon. Nobody was injured. The total loss is estimated at Rs. 80 lakh. Several domestic gas cylinders burst in the fire and nearly 30 coconut trees were also burnt down. Fire tenders from Karaikal, Porayar, Nagapattinam and Nagore put out the fire after two hours. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
