MoU to be signed for research activities

TIRUCHI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T) will shortly sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to accord a thrust on research activities at the institute.

“We will work on ideas suggested and solidify the understanding within 30 to 40 days,” N. Chandrasekaran, executive vice-president and head, Global Sales and Operations, TCS, told presspersons here on Wednesday.

The TCS has been conducting campus interviews at the NIT-T for 18 years now. According to the institute, the MoU is expected to cover scholarship stipends of Rs.10,000 per month to 10 M.S. (by research) students and Rs.15,000 per month for five Ph.D scholars working on problems suggested by the TCS; stipends of Rs.3,000 per month to 10 B.Tech students and Rs.5,000 per month to five M.Tech students on project titles suggested by the TCS; M.S. Programme for TCS employees at NIT-T, and establishment of state-of-art laboratory at the institute for carrying out the projects and research work.

IBM, Tata Elixi and HP had plans to invest in research infrastructure at the institute, said M. Chidambaram, director, NIT-T.
