PANAJI: The Goa Government envisages huge revenue potential, approximately Rs. 10 crore a year, from the casinos in five star hotels which were brought under the State Entertainment Act last year. State Finance Secretary Ramesh Negi told The Hindu on Wednesday that the Government had directed the Commercial Tax Department to expedite the formal registration of casinos under the Entertainment Tax so that the collection of the revenue was speeded up. Disclosing that a single resort, city-based Goa Marriott Resorts, paid Rs. 18 lakh for last two months as entertainment tax under the new legislation, Mr. Negi said the Commercial Tax Department had projected that the State could get around Rs. 10 crore a year from this revenue source. The State has as many as 11 casinos in five star hotels and a floating casino.
