KUMBAKONAM: Rama.Ramanathan, former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLA of Kumbakonam, and three others were acquitted in a case registered against them in the year 2000.
Jayanthi, Magistrate of the Judicial Magistrate court at Kumbakonam, in her judgement given on Tuesday, acquitted the former MLA and three others as the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.
On November 24, 2000, during DMK regime, issue of photo identity cards was going on at Kamaraj Middle school at Melacauvery at Kumbakonam. In one of the identity cards received by Kavitha, a voter, the name was given as “Kavitha is a stupid.” She took the card and showed it to Rama. Ramanathan. The former MLA went to the school to raise the issue. Later a case was registered against him stating that he prevented government officials from discharging their duty. After more than six years, judgement was given in the case at Kumbakonam Judicial Magistrate court.
