BANGALORE: Five new additional judges of the Karnataka High Court were sworn in here on Wednesday. The judges, A.N. Venugopal Gowda, Narayanaswamy, Ravi B. Naik, A.S. Pachhapure and Arali Nagaraj, were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph at the Advocates Hall on the ground floor on the High Court premises. Huge gathering
The hall was jam-packed and many had to contend themselves with watching the proceedings from outside the hall. This is the first time in the recent years that the swearing-in ceremony was held outside Court Hall No 1. Judges, the Advocate-General, advocates, and staff of the Judicial Department were present. With the swearing-in commencing at 10.30 a.m., the courts commenced hearing only around noon. All the new judges were assigned to Division Bench. With their appointment, the number of judges in the High Court has gone up to 36.
